Kendra has been on the run for times. Nella will also have to do the same if she wants to keep her musketeers and family safe. still, Nella’s friend, Malaika, who has now formerly been attacked by one of Diana’s sisters, reminds Nella that effects are different now.
Nella knows Diana’s plan, and she can stop it. All Nella needs to do is stop Jesse’s book from getting published. Thanks to Vera, Nella and her musketeers get the idea of burying a perceptivity read that says the pen’s a supremacist.
Nella and her musketeers plan to turn Jesse’s followers againsthim.However, they can make his followers suppose that Jesse is a total falsity, and they will swap his book, If they manage to get Jesse’s book blurted before Diana and Richard’s PR spin.
Nella breaks into Wagner Books ’ office to steal Jesse’s book. There, she faces Hazel, who attempts to move Nella one last time that compromising does n’t have to mean giving up on your pretensions.
It only looks like Hazel managed to move Nella because, the coming day, Nella shows up at the office in a new look to support Jesse, Diana, and Richard, but Jesse is latterly abducted by Malaika and Kendra.
Nella calls someone to inform them that she’s in. She says, “ Let’s burn it down ”, intimating that they’re taking Wagner Books, Diana, and Richard down.

How Did Hazel Win Nella’s Trust?
Nella was relieved to have another Black woman working at the office, and she commended in Hazel how she absolutely abominated a Black character written by the most famed author at Wagner Books. Hazel encouraged her to speak her mind, but Nella didn’t feel confident enough. Vera had categorically asked her not to express her honest opinion, and Nella didn’t wish to offend her. When Hazel met the author, Colin Franklin, at the office, she remarked how Nella had a certain opinion about his new book. She had put Nella on the spot, and Nella didn’t know how to reply.
She could either play it safe and appreciate him, or she could speak her mind and save the author and the publishing house from being intimately called out. Nella chose to do what was right, and that boomeranged. Vera was visibly embarrassed, and to make matters worse, Hazel didn’t back her up. She rather praised Colin for his nuanced jotting, farther guilt- tripping Nella. All of a unforeseen, Hazel came the most famed reality at the office. Everyone loved her, except Nella, of course.
Hazel had broken Nella’s trust, and as a result, she had to apologize to Colin Franklin. Hazel latterly explained how she was only trying to save her job and that she didn’t believe in censuring someone with razor-sharp words. rather, she preferred sweet talking to them and making them understand where they blamed. Hazel promised to be there for Nella hereafter, and she stuck to her words. When Vera tried to pass on Nella’s idea of perceptivity read as commodity that she had come up with, Hazel called her out. He gave her a chance to propose an idea that Wagner Books could work on, and Nella suggested the rerelease of “ Burning Heart. ” She was hopeful that both the editor, Kendra Rae Phillips, and the author, Diane Gordon, could come together to make it possible. Richard bared that indeed though Kendra was believed to have faded, in reality, she committed self-murder. Nella’s idea held implicit, but she had to reevaluate the prosecution.
Nella owed it all to Hazel; later each, she tutored her to take pitfalls, and she was being awarded for it. Nella’s stylish friend, Malaika, didn’t trust Hazel at all. When Malaika informed Nella that Hazel had intimately met Richard, Nella was all the more surprised. But as it turned out, Hazel was insuring for Nella. Someone had blurted the handwriting of Colin Franklin’s new book, and people were calling it racist.
Wagner Books had to ever control the damage, and Vera was in charge of it. When Nella suggested dropping the book release altogether, Vera was furious and fired her at the meeting, but she was incontinently stopped by Richard. Richard Wagner blazoned that Nella’s decision was right and that it was because Vera chose not to incorporate suggestions made by the perceptivity anthology that the book was being extensively blamed. Vera lost her job, and Nella was considered for the position of assistant editor.
Nella felt a little shamefaced about the way Vera was intimately lowered, but Hazel was perplexed. This, all the more, urged Nella to meet the foreigner at a secret karaoke bar, but the foreigner stood her up. latterly in The Other Black Girl, we find out that the foreigner was named Shani, and she was Hazel’s colleague at her former company. Hazel used to go by the name Eva also, and supposedly, Shani started stalking her after she left the job.
Hazel pretended to be fully shaken when Nella bared that the foreigner had communicated her. But we ultimately get to know that Hazel had men looking for Shani, and they eventually captured her, and Hazel kept her locked in a room.
During the ending of The Other Black Girl, it’s revealed that Hazel was signed by a secret association feeding to the weal of Black women( or so they claimed). They believed it was their job to relieve all Black women of their guilt and pain, and they had formulated a hair gel that could take it all down. When Hazel suggested Shani use the product, she was affrighted.
She was indeed attacked for refusing to use the product, and from also on, Shani was on the run. She followed Eva to the new company and decided to advise Nella of her, but she was captured before she could do so.

One evening, when Nella and Malaika were invited to a girls ’ gathering at Hazel’s place, they realized effects weren’t right. There was commodity peculiar about the women Hazel introduced as her musketeers. It was as if they were being controlled, and they, in some way, participated the same mind. All the women in the room held high positions in their respectable fields, and what caught Malaika’s attention was the unforeseen change in address of herex-girlfriend, Ruby.
The woman who was formerly severely revengeful had fully changed. She was a lot calmer and had returned from an interview at Goldman Sachs, and Malaika was confident that the word meant nothing further than a deli to Ruby formerly. So, what was wrong with these women?

Nella had to find out what it was each about, and she prevaricated about an exigency and managed to run out of the house.

Does Nella Survive The Conversion?
Nella attends Hazel’s party ignorant of the scheme of Lead Conditioners in expedients of gathering dust about Hazel and her suspicious geste. Nella discovers the brochure containing the details of several black women, including herself.
The brochure also has detailed notes about transformations, which led to a panicked Nella escaping the party successfully. The following day Nella realizes that Hazel has successfully converted their guest of honor. Nella, seeing no stopgap for escape from the ongoing cycle, eventually warrants to conversion, which leads to her getting a Lead Conditioner like Hazel.
The new ends with Nella arriving in Portland and setting her eyes on Shani in expedients of conversing with her. Rather than trying to take down the system responsible for oppressing her, she gets ingrained in it, therefore continuing the cycle of abuse and oppression.
